Carpal Tunnel Pain? — Get Tested for Food Allergies

Tuesday, September 9, 2008 18:41

In previous posts, I’ve written how many types of activities beyond computer use can cause repetitive stress injuries like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or Golfer’s Elbow or Epicondylitis… anyone from pizza makers to archaeologists to musicians can be at risk of this kind of injury.

However, it’s not just your usual motions that put you at risk — your overall health and diet also affects how your body copes with injury. If you eat badly, or you eat foods you’re allergic to, you could also be causing yourself pain. Health professionals can say “Eat Healthy” till they’re blue in the face, but the question really is, do you know what your body thinks is healthy?

Another ergonomics blogger at ErgoBlog says he suffered from Carpal Tunnel along with a myriad of other health problems for years, before finally getting tested and finding out that he just had some food allergies. Allergies to wheat and gluten are fairly common. Once he cut out the foods that he was allergic to, his pain started to go away. Read his story over on the Ergoblog.

It’s a very interesting problem I hadn’t considered before — maybe I’ll go get tested too!
